He wasn't all obsessive (spoiler alert)
He was okay with staying away if it meant Shavonne could live a happy, privileged life. He was also very understanding when Shavonne rejected him at first, and just asked for some time to process everything. Also, when that creep was messing with Shavonne, he was just observing from afar and only took action when the fucker tried to hurt him. To me, his behaviour is less obsessive and more genuinely affectionate.
