a lot of the stuff he has done was out of character bc the author wasted the whole story on him being an asshole and since she needs to make them endgame, she is struggling now to portray a realistic change of heart and personality. Like this would have been even lower than bare minimum. Almost all of his abuse is based on rape and the one thing he needs to fix most is the thing he still fucks up. CONSENT

I honestly don't think id say he was almost redeemable, the way he's written now I'd say he's closer to undiagnosed bipolar with zero intention of getting a therapist. This is of course fiction, but if dan were real we'd all tell him to run and neverrrrr look back.
I read a ton of slop, and suspend my disbelief all the time, but something about the way she wrote this doesnt let me suspend my disbelief enough to find their relationship to be anything but completely horrible.
