What?? did we read the same thing?? They did not! They did everything they could but since they didn't even know the enemy or how to defeat it, they had given up. So the emperor called for them all since it would be the last gathering and a banquet for everything they all done but some still chose to fight like the dude that didn't appear there and were still fighting, choosing to die in battlefield
And the soldiers in the hallway not knowing what to do with themselves ? Waiting for death while they were eating their last meal « with dignity » ? They were people still fighting and they gave up, decided to eat while they were at eat, there was no banquet, a banquet is where everyone gets to eat, they were the only ones to eat. Idk if it’s different in the novel but that’s what we saw here
I mean what do you even want them to do? They dont even know the enemy and they keep losing, they had given up. They're tired. They did everything they could, they just wwnt to celebrate that for the last time they're trying to be optimistic and not fall into despair

She definitely did not choose to die again and again she accepted to turn back time once, to change history and create a better future, but the goddess made her return without memories and made an outcast of her, then brought forth heroes to ensure she fulfilled the wish she asked for, making her fight again and again after dying without understanding why the world wants her dead. Imo that’s crueler than the blissful death the other had.
