The deviation from the typical alpha x omega pairing is what makes this au interesting. There are thousands of this conventional pairing. Using the abo universe as a setting doesn’t require every single character to be an alpha or omega because the author is still using the social system to narrate a relationship: seonwoo being a beta tests him and taemoos relationship in a way that other abo stories cannot replicate. The “point” of this side story is to show that they will accept and understand each other no matter their personalities, upbringings, and second genders. Not every couple needs babies to be happy! (=・ω・=)
You can do that storytelling "point" without utilizing ABO at all. Like literally omegaverse in this case is nearly pointless. Like I've said before, it's like having a magical world then focusing on the non-magical stuff. Like what's even the point. Also, your last statement is just as valid the other way around, Some couples needs babies to be happy!(=・ω・=)
I will admit that this view of mine is a bit biased because I am a gay biological man that has always desired for a long time to have a biological child with my future husband because for me children are [the physical living manifestation of our mutual love for each other]. I'm thankful for my parents loving each other and giving birth to me because I quite enjoy living. And this deep desire of mine pains me greatly because it is an impossibility. I don't want surrogacy and in vitro fertilization is currently impossible between the same gender. The mpreg in Omegaverse provides me an escapism from this unreachable desire of mine. Thus I hate this pointless "deviations" from this universe.
it is equally as important to challenge narratives that retell the same alpha omega story over and over as it is to write a comforting and compelling mpreg story. Your personal bias is valid, but people need to recognize that it’s ok for authors to try to experiment and attempt to expand a genre. It might not be successful, and the au’s ending is ambiguous, but when a piece of media feels challenging to digest and complicates the space that it exists in, is that not benefiting and expanding your perspective as a reader?
Have you never encountered a story that has a “normal plain” character that exists in a fantastical universe? Are these stories meaningless? Should authors just write the same stories over and over again? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
That's the issue, there's nothing new here. Literally remove the ABO from this side story and its basically similar to what happens in the original story.
You didn't understand my magical world analogy. It's not about a "normal plain" character that exists in a fantastical universe. It's about characters existing in a fantastical universe but then showing zero fantastical stuff, essentially making it no different had they existed in a normal universe in the first place.
“Basically similar” is an erroneous analysis. The point of the au is that taemoo will accept seonwoos flamboyant personality in all universes and seonwoo will always unapologetic about his identity. The majority of abo aus are 5 chapters of impregnation and raising a baby. If you remove the abo from these aus, is it not just a continuation of the main story plus a kid? Was the knot not enough fantasy for you? I think you just want the baby and fluff, and that’s ok. Just be aware that based on probability, most of us would be betas and abo doesn’t exist without the b! >_<
So yeah, it is just like the main story, but with just the ABO label.
If you remove the ABO it's not a just continuation of the main story plus a kid because the main story is NOT mpreg. Like girl what.
Yes the knot was not enough fantasy enough for me. I thought that was obvious from the get go.
The probability of us being betas is super irrelevant, I don't know why you even brought that up. ABO without betas is just omegaverse. Literally the betas in ABOs are the "normal" ones. Bland. Common. Their nonexistence will not affect the unique biology of Alphas and Omegas.

Hot take here but everytime there's an Alpha/Omega x Beta pairing in an omegaverse, then it's better it didn't happen at all in the omegaverse in the first place because what's the point? They're just gonna be a regular couple. One of the main points of omegaverse, (aside from the pheromones, marking, or knotting) is making mpreg biologically possible and natural. Pairing with a beta literally make all those features pointless and just makes the omegaverse a footnote. Sure it can be a source of conflict for the plotline. But most of the time it's really pointless. It's like saying this world is a magical one full of magical beings then barely seeing any magic happening because it focuses on non-magical beings.
