My guess (like most narcissists) Baekhee strokes his ego. Sounds like Baekhee depended on him a lot in the past and I'm sure Gyeom loved having someone 'loyal' to him. Baekhee could also been seen as controllable with his trauma.
That's my guess too, he is looking for a pet rather than a lover that does everything he tells them to do.
