Well hate to break it to you but, shounen-ai literally means “boy’s love,” so yes, it’s already BL. In Japan it’s just the softer, more emotional, less-explicit corner of the genre. The term isn’t as common anymore, sure, but you can’t really replace it when it still labels a specific BL subgenre. And yeah, swapping it out in tagging systems sounds great in theory, but with how often new tags pop up, well good luck keeping that perfectly organized. rip programmer

Shounen ai is really not used anymore. They just call it BL. I think the yaoi/yuri labels should be replaced by BL/GL and the ones with explicit content should be tagged with smut

Sounds nice but that will be complicated as there's a little chance that will happened thought since it's quite hard to change label when they're always have everytime unless this website have a ton of people to do it, the chance might be low but it's never zeroes

They dont even say yaoi/yuri either. When i went to japan shounen ai/yaoi are just lumped together as BL

also no idea why you got dislikes. some people are sensitive about calling something "yaoi" because they think it has negative connotations or that it means its explicit even though BL=Yaoi. Like...its all yaoi in the end but yaoi is outdated term anyways aaa

Yaoi/shounen ai are outdated terms. BL is what its called in japan. Its just that this site is old af and doesnt change the tags
