She was portraits as someone who is weak in that chapter, which is out of character, since, in the previous chapter she was seen as that strong woman/mage. Like author, are we really that common path.

I disagree. Just like most of us endure a mean boss and a few more idiots in some circumstances, because we need protect some more important things.?
There are some social conventions she simply cannot break, hierarchy, peerage such. She’s a wild one, but within acceptable boundaries.
ANd for that reason, she has to plays that game by the rules. Hence, she cannot face the elderly of the family and answer her in the same manner
It’s not just a transposition of asian family system.
She cannot let herself be shunned out of the entire system. She has things to protect : her carrier, her family, and her husband legacy.
She’s not weak because she plays within the system rules, she’s smart enough to endure and pay the price for the big picture.
She did endure, but when you read the last chapter before that slap, she tremble.
But enduring long term abuse does take a toll you ? Think about Burn out condition. The one who end up in this nasty condition are most often people whoa the most invested and give it their all. I’s not because they are weak that they break.
Why can't she just zap the old hag, she is a mage.
