From what I heard from others yes they did. Everything the best friend was saying was true about their relationship. I don’t know all the details about their relationship but from what I heard the ML didn’t have feelings for him and he kinda drove the best friend mad to the point he killed himself. I heard it was because he found out the ML didn’t love him back and so he killed himself to make the ML feel something.
