I'm the opposite, I can't wait for next week's chap.
I love how it's written, it's mature, adult, there is no shortcut in the writing and the author is faithful to the characters, they don't just dramatically change on a whim, there is a constancy. The author could have gone the easier way like it's seen in almost every other story, but they don't.
I tried so hard with these 2 stories but the angst is written in such a superficial and overly dramatic way it's a waste of great great potential from both authors. They just brush the psychology of their characters.
While for Hayden and Brett ... Hayden still loves Brett, he doesn't deny it, but he clearly said I don't want to keep going even if I still have feelings for you and we understand his reasons. While Brett, even though he's showing effort and some vulnerabilities, is still keeping his core, which is totally understandable with someone who's been conditioned all his life to be like this. Their fight, coming back and forth, this psychological play, that's painfully well written.
of course you've already read peak, hat's off to you. if you liked the beast must die, it reminded me of an original slash fiction series called the administration series by manna francis. great dystopian worldbuilding and excellent character writing, as well as steamy BDSM sex scenes, and it's mostly available for free online!

Depression, that's what it is.
