I play violin and I'm not sure if you guys hold it differently than I do since I've only been playing for a select amount of months but he was holding really weird WHILE playing it.
I don't play instruments but... a bass is supposed to be put on the floor... a violin near the neck or shoulder. Idk if that's what ya meant tho.

It probably looks weird because he’s playing it like a cello rather than a bass. Bassists (me included) sit on stools so we stay the same height even when sitting down.
Otherwise, his posture and even hand grip are correct
i used to play in an orchestra (violin and viola), it does look like he’s playing the it’s the way he’s holding the bow and the perspective of the scene that is throwing me off

That’s the correct bow grip! It’s a German bass bow, I use it and it’s underhanded

Okay it’s all I could focus on since I play contrabass and I’m stuck wondering why he’s playing a bass that looks like a 1/4 or 1/2 bass rather than a 3/4 or full size.
I love he uses a German bow, I HATE French bass bows with a passion, but why is he—a man I presume to be over 6’/180cm playing a smaller bass than me? I’m 5’6/169 cm and I play a 3/4 since first position is supposed to be around your ear.
It’d be funny if the reasoning behind it was that zhenya’s too lazy to move his arm as much as needed for a bigger bass and got a smaller one that he could play sitting on a chair
