My point is, this guy didn't raise him from childhood (like, say, 5 years old), but lived with him from his teens. He was never a parental figure, so he shouldn't treat him like his child. A 16-year-old is a teenager, a child, that's also true, but he wasn't grooming a 16-year-old, but an adult. The stabbing happened when he was about 18. It all started out of sympathy. By the way, the age difference between them isn't that big, only 8 years. Don't throw PDFs around, because in this context, it doesn't even count.
I’m not saying he was legally a parent. I’m saying it’s ethically weird to develop romantic feelings for someone you met and bonded with while they were 16. Whether you want to call it grooming or not, the foundation of that relationship was built when one person was still a child, and that’s the issue for me. Age gaps matter way less than timing and context, and this one is off.
You don’t have to raise someone from childhood for it to be wrong. Meeting them at 16, living with them as an adult, then dating them once they turn 18 is still questionable. Legal doesn’t automatically mean okay.
