I'm on chapter 105 and Eckles' storyline is a whole tragedy. (Possible spoilers at the end part idk whaperevthe story is at rn but I really just needed to get this off my chest.)
A crown prince of a fallen nation who becomes a slave of the empire who fell his nation. He understood what he was. He was traumatised from losing everything and everyone he ever knew. He was stripped and forced into auction then got bought out by a kid, beautiful noble lady who treated him with unprecedented affection. He understood the situation.
Due to Penelope needing to up his affections she gave him what he wanted as much as possible, she treated him with kindness he did not deserve for he was a threat. This led to him falling hard and fast. A vulnerable man. A lonely man. A slave.
Unfortunately for him this is not his story. He is not the main character. This is not a storyline of the noble lady and her Knight. This is not a story of noble classes. This is not a story where he transcends all odds and rebels, thus saving his empire.
This is a story of Penelope as the female lead and Callisto as the Male lead.
He a man who is not even dubbed a man. A slave seeing his beloved smile and find joy amongst the actions of the crown prince and future emperor of the empire who destroyed his everything is the saddest possible thing that could happen after all that. He who was once a crown prince, with high social standing, high skills, good looks, everything a man could ever need now just a slave of the lady he loves.
That anguish is just something palpable. Imagine having fallen from nobility to a slave, and seeing the women you so cherish, the girl you want to give very thing and anything to but can't cause you do not have a single thing to your name, gets swept away by a crown prince with ample wealth. A position he had but fate took.
BRUH ITS TOO SAD. POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD. And at one point I remember readinga spoiler about how Eckles ends up dying to save the mc and that's even more tragic. The man could not have a single happy ending in this life. It pains my heart greatly to see such a well written character be dismissed to the sidelines and put at a dead end. Truly tears are a must for such a storyline.
strong agree! and we supposed to see him as a villain whole time he a victim of circumstance. like i always say if i was homeless if smoke a little bit of crack too
