I think it's not portrayed in a purely titillating way given that you can tell the incheol's not into things, and general framing/vibe of the scene but yes to everything you're saying. I was hoping for a different sort of exploration of obligation and desire and thought things were set up for that, but evidently not. still intrigued by where it might go, but there is that disappointment.
Soo, I'm disappointed. I was really excited for this, masochistic top? Sounds great. The art looked great and still does lol, the main characters actually look their age AND race.... ofc there had to be rape... Did I know from the beginning that this wasn't going to be a happy, non-toxic story? Yeah, I knew it would be dark, layered and probably toxic in some way BUT not in THAT way. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we should just stop portraying rape etc in media but I don't think that was needed in this story. I saw so many ppl in the comments saying that "it's not rape" or "it's ok bc yk he's a masochist so that normal haha hihi" bro... In WHAT world does it work like that? Saying it actually hurts ppl that are actually masochists, are in the bdsm community etc... Just bc someone likes being idk chocked, doesn't automatically mean THEY ARE INTO RAPING OTHERS AND ITS OKAY BROOO. I get that the line here is thin but rape is still rape. The bottom (I'm bad with names sorry ) clearly wasn't into it, let's remember he's straight, and is trying to just get his job done he said he didn't want it too so.. OH AND BTW BC SOME PPL DONT KNOW IT APPARENTLY. U CAN GIVE CONSENT AND THEN BE LIKE "OKAY NEVERMIND, I DONT WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE"!!! It's not like when u say yes u can't "change your mind" later. Soo yeah, I think rape is not needed in this story, it's done horribly wrong AND the author could have done so much with this "top is a masochist" trope but whatever ig. The rape trend in bl's is fucking crazy, we really dont need rape everywhere, especially when it's shown like it's NOT rape. (before u say I don't have to read it if I don't like it, yes ik, but I can still say I fucking hate it) Reminder, just bc the story is "dark and twisted and toxic and this and that" it doesn't automatically mean that showing rape like it was 100% consentual (not saying it's a case in this story) and just.. showing rape is okay. We can have some psychological horror without it
