I think you miss the part that MC is in love with ML and that's why he hates himself and tried to kill himself.
True! Whole point Heeryang so against on his suicide attempts, cause it's a punishment to Yeonjo himself

ML is jealous and in love with MC and the guy in jail likes MC too but MC likes neither of them. lol
