We don’t know that for sure it might be foreshadowing even if it is a hallucination
I didn't even think about the possibility but ut could be true the more I think about it. I actually thought he was so worried about his family that he had this dream
i don’t think he’s his dad bc in the first ch the story starts off right after mc goes back home and his wife and kid are gone. he probably knows what his kid looks like unless he had another kid who got taken away before the story started

This side story might be tweaked on purpose and I thought like you as well BUT. There was a phrase "how much time actually passed? I dont know" or something along these lines
