I mean, it’s making sense because from how main character is describing the flashbacks from when he was separated from his kid, there’s some time difference from then and now. So the kid must’ve grown up.

I don't think it's that long. The last chapter in the main story, the wife is still alive living with her brother. And Ricky is also in the story line so it can't be that long
