Jiheon will ask Jae-kyoung to just start dating at the end of chapter 104 in the novel. Before that Jae-kyoung asked Jiheon out several times, but Jiheon always declined. They do establish a fuck buddy relationship around chapter 64 in the novel tho. It's like a proposition, Jae-kyoung won't retire and therefore Jiheon will have sex with him. Along the way he also starts to develop feelings for Jae-kyoung. But for this relationship to work, Jiheon has to increase his pheromone dosage, otherwise his pheromones will affect Jae-kyoungs condition and decrease his performance. The bad thing is that Jae-kyoung is imprinted to Jiheons pheromones, so he even reactes to tiny traces of them that others couldn't even detect. So Jiheon has to continuously increase the dosage and starts getting sick. He loses a lot of weight. In chapter 103 Jae-kyoung asks to accompany Jiheon to a hospital visit, but of course Jiheon absolutley doesn't want that, he doesn't want him to find out. So to dodge that he tells him he has to go on a business trip for several months and will probably be back after the olympics. Jae-kyoungs first reaction is that he will quit the olympics if he wouldn't be able to see him for so long. But a few moments later he reassures Jiheon he wouldnt do so as long as he didnt intentionally break their promise and tried to run away again. "I will think about quitting several times a day. I'll wonder why I'm doing this when you're not next to me. Later, I'll regret starting swimming in the first place, and I will cry while looking at the pool during every break." Jae-kyoung says to Jiheon ╥﹏╥ After Jae-kyoung confesses his loneliness, Jiheon will ask him to start dating and he never goes on said business trip. He will start being really sweet towards Jae-kyoung.
