i kinda assumed they meant he was just a really close friend of his mother, like alot of parents tell their kids to call their close friends uncle or aunt, so i assumed it was a familiar relationship like that ╮(￣▽￣)╭

It doesn't actually say how closely related they are right? Just says he's a relative on his mothers side. For my piece of mind I'm just going to pretend they are distant cousins. (⊙…⊙ )
