The only thing i got is that he was not arrested. It seems they run away. But I am also confused.
He was not arrested as there was no evidence of his involvement with the crime ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶ cause lutenant said it.
So he was free and left again to 'hide' so lutenant can 'find' him.

Anyways at the end ....it's like them playing a very long hide and seek game.
Also i agree with the idea that they knew of each other's occupation from the start. They just pretended that they were 'lucky' ....i guess (=・ω・=)
