My Sympathies...

I feel for Yuta having to learn all that. I really sympathize since none of this was his choice until now. But now that he has chosen to accept loving Mei-san back, all that learning is part of it. Yuta can't keep being a simple Japanese cook just hoping to survive anymore, he's now part this world's power politics, and will need to know all that so he doesn't end up a helpless pawn at the mercy of everyone. Especially if he really wants to be able to help Mei-san as an equal partner and not just be someone Mei-san has to worry about and constantly protect.

Actually, disagree. Still not his choice. And Mel acts like it's not his problem? Ugh, so cliched.

As long as Yuta believed he didn't want to be in a relationship, or if he had made a choice that despite knowing his feelings that getting involved with a prince was just too much, I'm sure there were several things Yuta could have done. Yuta did finally agree by his own choice, even though he wasn't there at all by choice. Nor do we always choose who we fall in love with. Yuta fell in love with a prince and has chosen to remain with him. The story makes it very clear that it is his his choice in the end.
