We all miss Akihito. It is getting into my nerve by not seeing him in the update however for the story progress this fight update is necessary. Akihito is Asami's and Asami is Akihito's, no one is between them :p
I think that solving all the issues that do not concern the love between Asami and Aki (Mikhail, Feilong, Rebel, etc ...) will allow Sensei to dedicate only to our protagonists in the future. It is clear that Akihito will have a prominent role, not just as a subject of love, but as a man of action.
this chapter focuses on Asami and Fei but concludes their relationship by defining their respective roles: allies. I'm sure they will fight together but I do not believe that their relationship will be dealt with more in depth: this chapter I believe is also the climax achieved between the two. After that, their relationships will be reduced and stereotyped. This is my feeling.

Yamane's art is so sublime that it has given me other curiosities in addition to the main pair (Fei, Mikhail, kuroda, yoh). I say it sincerely, without intending to diminish neither Asami nor Aki.
I miss 'em too. But I actually rather like Aki being AWOL in this way, the focus being on Asami and his endeavors with Fei. This lets Aki proceed with his training and further character development without intense scrutiny from the audience. It leaves a healthy mystery in our heads, and I'd rather his next appearance be a surprise, with a dramatic change that leaves us salivating on a cliffhanger. ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
