Of course it as friend or at least family... Unless we're hoping for something else.. I can feel your fujoshi's feeling.. me too, want Hide to love Kaneki more than just a friend or family .. but well this is not shounen ai or yaoi genre..

It doesn't need to be either of those genre for Hide to have romantic feelings for him if they never get a chance to explore it.
