It might sound weird because his "charm" is non-traditionally charming. Meaning, he has a particular charm, and it takes a very particular taste to appreciate it... a *very* particular one...
I mean, he always tries to act smug about something or other, when in fact deep down he's quite insecure... But, as a potential love interest, I must say his mask of smugness wouldn't appeal just about everyone, and for many it could just get really annoying, especially if you don't get to see his insecure side often enough... Hm, wait, no... I think, even after seeing his insecure side, his smug side would still be somewhat annoying?
I mean, he's cute enough as a friend and a side character, but... if I had to put up with him 24/7? ...I think I'd probably murder him...
