He worked with them, but didn't actually did the cups thing until he needed to smooth things over after raping Tatsuyuki. Since it looks like Reika is a few years older than her kindergarten self from Yondaime, that makes sense.

He's 21 in the past when he meets Akitora and 48 when he meets Hachi and tells him he just become a yakuza a few years ago.
His character is so interesting and complex. I can't wait to see how their story pans out and why Akitora wants nothing to do with him in the future.
My guess is that Rogi is responsible for his wife's death.
