The dad still has a point though. If you give up or quit because things are difficult or because you are not motivated enough, then you won't be able to make progress or find out whether or not you like something. For an example, I am an art student, but sometimes I get assigned projects that I really don't like. But I have to do it anyway to learn how to adjust. I mean, if I reject projects in a workplace simply because it wasn't to my liking, I would get my ass fired.
