for me i think... and this is after looking at the raws and reading some loose translations and the many discussions on this thread

cheating is bad, beating is worse... i've never experienced the first but it doesn't make it okay to do the second, i am not into this kind of story, feel sorry for the situation and can't really formulate an opinion since this is their relationship. i haven't personally seen anything to disprove once a cheater always a cheater irl but i would like to if anyone has perspective on this. and beating is just terrible, i disagree with anyone saying that he deserved it. yes you don't know what you would do if you fell upon a situation like this but i would hope i would not resort to beating my s/o.
this is why i get a twisty feeling in my stomach when i see this author! her sex scenes are amazing, but i recall many plots with hints or cheating or flat out cheating involved so i'm always on the fence when reading. even for the hana series i was scared - though at the time it wouldn't be exactly cheating that hana would be hooking up with random guys at his workplace and be caught in the act by his childhood friend - really glad that didn't happen.

Lol, yes. There is SO MUCH variation. Why do we only see one "type" in 90% of yaoi!? It's so boring. Don't people get sick of seeing the same thing so frequently? The same stories, the same roles, over and over... Greque

Oh boy. The day I read a Yaoi portraying another type, the more realistic one, of couple, I'll be damned. The world will turn upside down. But I don't see it happening just yet since they bank on plots that sell. Unfortunately, those are the kinds that sell. Seke couples in BL are rare to find. That's why I highly regard this series because it is, though we don't get to see it in action but it was hinted. Abe Akane is smart.

I figured there wouldn't be much difference. Trying to understand authors but I guess their stories are indeed 60-70% fictional. Bottoms can be as manly as they could and switch to "faggot"- mode during sex (sorry for the term, not being derogatory here but it's just what they use), or still manly as heck even while being pummeled. (Wow, I just revealed how much I watch porn. *ehem* For educational purposes.) Though I prefer twinks to be honest, I learned bottoms don't have to always be treated as women, they simply enjoy sex. Well, thank you I have learned something again.

HAH, well damn. Some of the hypermasculinity crap is all social posturing. We were told for so long, and still are, that it's not ok to act gay, because gay means you're basically a woman, and a woman is the worst thing you can be(rolling my eyes here). I can't relate to it. There are plenty of gay men who are just average guys though. I think there is a lot of that in yaoi, but mostly because one of the two bad to be the man. Lol.

I don't like macho guys at all, which is why I don't like 99% of bara. It's just too much. I want a man who looks like he's been doing yard work every day, not one who looks like he can crush me and enjoy it.

Thanks! I try not to push my opinions on women, because I know you get enough of that from men, but I think I deserve an opinion on this topic at the very least. Lol Greque

i agree with pennyinheaven there's no gender in discussion you're not pushing anything on us :) i really appeciate reading both yours and pennyinheaven's perspective, it reminds me of realitie's perspective versus a very narrow category that yaoi is usually in
