I thought about that, too. But we all know that Hwon is violent just like that Hoody guy and he was older than Woojin. So in some ways, Hwon doesn't match to his childhood friend.

i kinda believe that Hwon is the Woojin's first love (his friend) ...because during the sleep... Hwon told Woojin that " can i tell something to make you sleep easier? That friend that you left behind, cant blame you" So i believe , he is his friend who fell head over heel since the start...
or hwon is the beggar and beat the friends head in himself....honestly it's like a 50/50 chance he's the friend or the beggar.
but there are other indicators, like why would the friend remove the mole he has on his face? because Hwon doesn't have it, and he doesn't have yellow eyes, although that could be solved with contacts and nothing as extreme as plastic surgery

idk what to think since some evidence points to hwon being the childhood friend
in chapter 22 (near the end), childhood friend said "want me to beat the crap outta them, pull out all their hair and teeth, and make them shit blood?" because people have been bullying woojin. woojin replies with "wha? you planning on becoming a ganster?"
after arguing back and forth, woojin says he doesn't have a phone and asks childhood friend how he would find him. childhood friend says "i'll follow you without anyone knowing."
as of ch 24, we know that hwon is in a mob and when woojin sleeps with other people, he beats them up and takes their teeth to show woojin. whenever woojin runs away, hwon would always find him somehow. he always know where woojin is and who he's with. IT CAN'T BE A COINCIDENCE
