I, like this character, lost my hearing in an accident. You are correct, he has the characteristics of a person who was born deaf. If you lose your hearing suddenly later in life, you still try to speak, it's a habit. Though, the words can sometimes sound distorted to the listener and the speaker often speaks far too loudly. My husband is always telling me that I am yelling even though I don't realize I am. LOL I also stutter, hesitate for long periods and unintentionally repeat myself when I speak, but I still can't break the habit of talking. I use ALS when I am among other deaf people, but among those who hear normally, I try to speak and read lips.
I really love this story because it touches a soft spot for me. It's sweet and endearing. Unfortunately, the deaf character is portrayed incorrectly.

Honestly, this is one of my most favorite stories by this mangaka. It is always the first one that comes to mind when I think of her or her work. I'm currently learning to read, write and even speak Japanese. So, I don't know for certain how a Japanese person would sound if they lost their hearing later in life. They have so many rules for courtesy and decorum in Japan, it's possible that how I handle my situation may be considered rude. (If you can't speak clearly and softly, it's best not to speak at all, kind of thing?) Therefore, my saying it is depicted incorrectly is not fair. It was depicted differently than what I have experienced, is a better way to phrase it.

AHEM AHEM... Let me introduce you to "Sign Language". It has both Shounen Ai and Yaoi tag along with Mature, Romance and Slice of life tags. Although not mentined as a tag but it also has comedic contents. It is ongoing and just getting to the "GOOD STUFF". Some of the scenes have already been played out and they turned out really good. It's a Manhwa and fully colored. I RECOMMEND RECOMMEND RECOMMEND!!!
*The plot is around our protagonist who unintentionally and embarrassingly gets a boner every time he hears the voice of a man who is deaf (due to an accident).

If he’s deaf, doesn’t that mean he can still speak? He’s not a mute as far as the manga tells. Then again, the story is still so cute~~
