The reason Haru forgets Ren is because he is subconsciously blocking his memory of meeting him. He associates meeting Ren with his parents death. He may feel like Ren is the cause yet feel no anger towards him. I know this sounds like a weird theory, but it's what I believe.

Yeah sure, the memory loss thing is cliché, but I don't think the reason why the author would do it twice is cliché, there has to be a really good reason why Haru's loosing memories of Ren and only of Ren and that time in Canada
