This whole power thing is confusing but here's me organizing my thoughts:
Yahagi is super smart/dangerous but he's loyal to Bidou (cuz he loves him) so he didn't try to branch off by himself which would have made him in line to be successor.
Bidou is sick so he can't be successor.
Yamato wasn't named Bidou's heir yet, hence why sugihara said he wouldn't exchange sake cups to a group without a successor.
Sugihara was trying to be successor to crush Bidou because he knew that if Bidou became successor, yahagi would succeed the sick Bidou and crush sugihara.
However yamato became successor despite his young age under yahagi's guidance, which ruined sugihara's attempt to crush Bidou group.

As for the relationship between yamato and yukio... hell if I know. They're both running away from each other and their feelings. Prob cuz they know it's dangerous. But they're currently in the middle of a fight that didn't even happen, just a kind of mutual agreement that they're fighting? So passive though. Like they both know what's going on but they're playing dumb cuz if they acknowledge it, they'll be rocking the boat. So little signs here and there that they can pass off as a normal conversation. It's a delicate dance, really.

Heheh loved that summary esp of their relationship. I was trying to figure out the subtleties as well.. But gotta admit it's creating a sensuous atmosphere, as if both are seconds away from letting their desires take over.

But Yknow they are not exactly fighting- Yamato is grieving bkz of his father but is not letting anyone see his pain. That's why Yukio is pissed off too- he wants to share his burden, like he did in the past when he got the same tattoo. (which is a bit contradictory; hard to get Yamato to open up if he rejects his calls)

Yamato says that Ai won't toss him away like some people referring to Yukio. I think it's because he wants a physical relationship with Yukio but the latter rejected him

The thing is, there was no "fight" or "rejection" or "confession" to speak of. They're dancing around eac other, pretending not to know what the other is thinking even when they do. They know but they're not doing anything. That being said, this is definitely a fight. A super subtle "we're fighting but pretending not to and we know why but we're not gna acknowledge it" kind of fight. The way yamato threw a jab with ai and the way yukio is ignoring his calls is all part of it. And still they're pretending not to know. They're pretending that those ignored calls and that jab is nothing because they don't want to acknowledge what s going on. It's beautiful really, this subtlety.

Yes it is indeed as you said. I suppose it is the discovery of first love that is creating the tension, or like you said, them accepting their feelings is dangerous bkz of who they are. But then the longer they keep at it the more the tension between them will expand somewhat like a rubber band. Not that I mind; their stubborn selves is what's spicing things up ( ̄へ ̄)

It is beautiful indeed :)) Like u said Yamato did not confess so his sexual invitation was seen as a jest. Yukio clearly needed an excuse too, seeing that he has been thinking of Yamato in that way too
The mangaka is pretty good at creating this kind of tension, I've never read anything of the like.
