I honestly am irritated. Can yaoi pls have sex without rape. Like this is unnecessary. Does the rape even contribute to the plot? Like I feel like this could've gone so many other routes and honestly I'm getting sick of having to even say, "hey sexual assault is wrong, even IN fiction."

Are there any stats on how long it will take Priapus to turn all guys gay? Usako

Oh my gawrsh, Usako, I just read your earlier reply and saw you meant the Priapus from the manga.
I was thinking the literal one from Greek mythology. XD
Sorry man, you must've been thinking "wut? Giant erection?" when you read my reply.

Woah, didn't expect to see the name Priapus here. XD But who knows maybe somewhere in an alternate dimension. He'll make a giant harem with that giant erection he's illustrated with. Pacgirl

Well, (in a manga) he was the one Zeus sent to stop the raping and killing, so, kinda fits (kinda).

Indeed. Rape is not something that absolutely can't be included in a story if done tastefully (that in itself sounds weird, I know.) It's something that happens in reality, and is something that can happen to characters. It's all about how the situation is handled, and it needs to be treated with care.
To casually include it like this with a lighthearted feel to it is wrong. The character even acknowledges that he's been "assaulted".
It's sexualising rape. And since rape isn't sex, it shouldn't be considered "sexy".
This is a growing and disturbing trend throughout the genre, and it's good to speak up, because the normalisation of it is extremely problematic.

I agree. Im very careful with reading yaoi Mangas, cause like 90 % have rape included. the only one I ever read and enjoyed was sekaiichi hatsukoi (torixchiaki is even my otp). but then theres really bad stuff like "viewfinder". I think people that enjoy this kinda stuff are sick in the head. The first thing that the seme does to the uke is kidnapping him and cruely raping him (the uke even says that it hurts..). then they go and justify it with "its okay, since he truly cares about the uke" *facepalm*. and about the "read the tags". sure, obviously we always try to do that and be careful. I even let myself be spoilered in the comments, just to make sure not to read a rape story, but like viewfinder for example was so super hyped, that I thought it absolutely has to be good. And man.. my eyes were burned, I felt like puking and dropped it after 3 chapters =.= sick, just sick. It being fictional, doesnt make it okay either. I like fictional characters and hence I feel bad for them. If you want to read cute, lovely yaoi with good story line I can recommend all of natsume isakus works. they are worth gold ;3

It's a fetish that many people have and these mangas live out their fantasies. It's not about normalizing it because it will never be normal, hence why it's a popular tag because it's the dark side. Many Yaoi mangas however don't have rape for people who don't have that fetish, I don't read Yaoi mangas with rape by checking the tag. It's also a very big fetish in Japan and these come from Japan.

And no, many people who enjoy these mangas are not "sick", they know it is wrong.

That reasoning can be used for paedophilia as well.

That’s an ignorant statement. Rape fantasies are VERY common in women, adult women who have this fetish (and these mangas are mainly made for these audience) and then read a manga, book or porn with adults acting in a rape scenario does NOT compare to adults who usually watch REAL videos of children being abused to feel more satisfied. Watching rape in mangas (not real) does not compare to adults who might actually rape a child in real life through their fantasies. Also, pedophilia is not a fetish, it’s a sexual orientation so your comment is just stupid. Maybe think more deeply before you type.

These mangas are also marked as *mature* for mature people. It’s not mean for younger people. These mangas are for adults who know the difference between reality and fantasy, no underage child is involved.

To begin with, I only asserted that paedophiles also know that what they're doing is wrong, and that it doesn't make them less sick.
It's up to interpretation whether one wants to consider this fantasy sick or not. I don't think it's harmful if it stays just that, but I think it's an entirely different matter in fiction like this where it is open and easily accessible, not only to people with a rape fetish, but for a very broad audience. This makes it so that it is, too, becoming normalised as a concept, and is trivialising the importance of consent.
Furthermore, the trend is showing in a lot of other Yaoi, whether they do contain actual rape or not, when consent is often not fully heeded. (Being pushy is fine as long as you don't cross vital borders, and even then would be fine with consent, of course.)

Rape fantasies are way too common to have it only be in “sick” people, which seemed like that is what you were saying. It’s a very normal fantasy (based on research) and should not be compared to pedophilia, which is much more rare and which is the sexual attraction to children. Two different things. That’s like saying homosexuality and beastality are the same, which is ridiculous. Women with rape fantasies are not dangerous. Pedophiles have a strong desire for children and therefore can be dangerous. Japan is one of the safest countries where rape is so low compared to many other countries, so obviously, these mangas are not doing any harm. Also, these mangas are not supposed to be here on a free site, it’s bought by people who seek this genre. Parents are also responsible in what their children see and they should check history to make sure they are not reading things that are not meant for them. Trust me, in this day and age, rape will never become normalized and that’s not the point of these mangas.
