What the fuck author. You make him be sweet, gentle, and considerate like they're whole lives and NOW he fucking jumps him in a VERY rapey looking scene??? Seriously wtf that seemed so out of character and so out of place in this comic. Ugh. Just so disappointed.

Or does it? He had a lot of pent up frustration through-out many years and had tendencies to be violent/have a bad mouth when he got jealous as a kid, bullying the one he likes. He always acted to be all chill with it, but we did see some dark tendencies through-out the story with his thoughts who ended up "overcoming" him in this scenario. So I don't really think it's out of character, personally, it kind of makes sense. To me, at least!

He had a LOT of contradicting thoughts in this situation, as well, telling himself, his thoughts of taking advantage, to "be quiet" and telling himself he is the worst. I simply think it was the breaking point for him.

I get what you're saying because I followed that line of thinking at first too, but I think ultimately the authors in the bl genre are making mistakes when they make almost all their male characters out to be one angsty outburst away from becoming actual rapists or sexual assaulters. You don't just be friends with somebody since childhood and have feelings for them and then one day get frustrated and pin them down, threaten them, and then basically molest them. Its not giving guys any credit. I think manga authors in general have a problem with depicting guys as always trying to hold themselves back from jumping on somebody. You see it in bl and shoujo. Idk if its a japanese mentality about men and urges and control or victim blaming or WHAT but we all can't deny its a problem. Maybe they're trying to add in tensity or exaggerate in order to portray just how pent up or how much desire a character is dealing with, but for me it interrupts the story, flattens characters, and is just flat out unnatural. In this case he was often having conflicting thoughts of wanting to be important to the guy he liked, feeling frustrated that he didn't notice his feelings, and etc. He showed times where his thoughts got negative or a little dark but never like...rape or assault dark (at least to my memory, correct me if I'm wrong). And even if he has had thoughts of wanting to jump him or be with him sexually as many boys do, they don't tend to actually act on those thoughts. I just have a hard time believing that in the situation they're in he would suddenly just pin him like he did and start feeling him up. It just felt very unnatural to me.

I'm glad you feel the same! I think we all easily get used to certain ideas and stereotypes, both in the real world and fiction, and start to give those things too much credit, so sometimes we really need to question it to find out we're not alone in feeling something is wrong.
