It's an Asian culture thing. Social hierarchy is more prevalent, and that includes your parents. In the West, we are generally more independent, outspoken, and social hierarchy isn't as big a thing, so we don't have a problem telling our parents to back off or mind their own business if they're being too pushy or disrespectful. However, it's a lot harder for Eastern people to do so. In fact, some may even not think to tell off a "superior".
