I’m torn

Honestly it was another rape-y introduction sweetened by a confession by the one being raped... I do find the angst in those rape scenes kind of hot but still... I’m torn.

I don’t get how people don’t understand how this is fiction.. you have your beliefs and all but overall. This is still fiction.

Ah I shouldn’t say belief. Obviously rape is wrong but I’m just saying that these stories are fiction.

Rape is wrong and it bothers me how some authors introduce it in their mangas, but this is a smut one-shot that is supposed to be funny, not a story that takes itself seriously. So you shouldn't take the rapey intro seriously either.

Everyone here realizes that this is fiction and that most people would not condone the seme's actions in real life. But being a work of fiction doesn't give the manga an automatic pass for rape. I think that the readers are allowed to question whether or not the rape scene was necessary and discuss how the scene made us feel.

of course they are allowed to, but there are many things in every story that are unnecessary but usually not discussed, i dont see how rape is any different. for example, in action animes/mangas where many unknown townspeople or something are killed, but no one cares

Yeah, I don't consider rape any better or worse than violence/death. They are both terrible. But I can understand why people get riled up about rape in yaoi and not about death in an action anime/manga. Action mangas are focused on fights and the growth of the protagonist/s. If our heroes are fighting against aliens who want to destroy the world, the readers understand that there will be deaths. As for most yaoi, the storylines are focused on the growth of the relationship between the main characters. In my opinion, rape would definitely effect that relationship, therefore you can't just ignore it.

Side note: my favorite types of action manga/anime/movies/novels are the ones that do show the consequences of massive destruction and deaths.

Honestly if it had actually been presented as rape instead of trying to sweeten it into something else I don’t think I would have been so torn. I can see what you guys are saying though. I do know that it’s only fiction and I don’t really have anything against rape in yaoi. What I’m conflicted about is that rape isn’t presented as rape.
