I finally figured out what Elias is, and I can't believe I didn't figure it out earlier. I don't want to say what he is, as I may be wrong.

I'm thinking a native American creature. It is neither a mythical beast, nor a human, but consumes human flesh. It starts off being a normal person, and gets infected by the creature it will become later on. The affected human starts to become crazed and delirious, and then starts to feast on his fellow man. The canablism drives out whatever may be left of his humanity. The creature is often depicted as having a deer skull as a head, haunches of a four legged creature, and most often has exposed ribs. This is only a theory, but it seems more and more likely.

Do you mean a wendigo? I thought that myself. However, when Elias transforms into his base beast form, he has a fish tail and differing animal features. I thought he might be one of Cartaphilus' chimera experiments. Since everyone states Cartaphilus is really old, he may have created Elias. Maybe even from a wendigo and fae parts, since the queen calls him a half.

It is only a theory, and I could very well be wrong. I had pieced it together with the not human not fat thing that the queen said. Then went by his looks. When stuff still didn't click, I remembered how Elias said he was wandering through the forests, and remembers eating people. And the wendigo really doesn't have a specific description. I had to look up more info last night, after my initial post, but it is normally depicted as being either a tall, gaunt, and skeletal, with an ash-gray complexion, and eyes pushed deep into their sockets, or, a giant beast with fangs and horns. Their is no specifics on what kinds of skull, nor what types of animal. I just thought that it is a good theory for what creature he could have been in his past. The current him however, is different. I'm not sure how he could have become sane after being a wendigo, so this is all just a guess.

And, another thing, the wendigo is found in north America and some part of Canada.. I looked up reindeer, and found that they happen to be found in places such as Europe, Siberia, and north America. This leads me to believe that Linden may have been in north America at the time when Elias stumbled across him.

I got most of my info about wendigo from a book "The Mythical Creatures Bible" by Brenda Rosen. The wendigo was found in part three, creatures from the shadow world, and under the chapter of shapeshifters. Probably due to the human changing into something else.
