I used to stay in Aussie for few years. And I still needed medicine and antibiotics when I got cold or flu. The way Asian grew up and being exposed to medicines/antibiotics at early age made us less resistant against cold/flu.
Actually we dont do that. At least not Singaporeans and malaysians. I myself dont even take any medicine. Just bear with the headache until it goes away lol
same. if people get sick in my country, we still go to work/school or usually just take a day off to rest at home if we are really feeling too unwell. if it’s a fever and it passes a certain temperature (and lasted for too long) then that’s only when people go to the hospital. it’s takes a lot though for people to take the average sickness as seriously as they do in comics though. maybe it’s a cultural thing??? idk. (i’m not judging tho.. i just find it different)
Idk too, i'm asian and my parents indeed always take me to the doctor whenever i catch cold back then when i still a student. I see it just parents being overprotective and want their kid to quickly recover (because honestly just take a day off rarely effective, usually need at least 2 or three days rest even after go to a doctor)

Oh that kinda sounds like they (asians? your parents? Idk if its common and I hate to stereotype people) have been too cautious and not allowed their immune systems to develop so a simple cold can knock em on their asses? Though I hear a lot of asian cultures are very hardworking (lol stereotyping oops) and put a fair amount of pressure on success so that might have something to do with it too??? Stress can lower immune systems... I think. I'm not a doctor though so :S Thanks for your insight though kind stranger.
The only time I've ever taken time off of work because of illness was when I literally couldn't get out of bed and even then I didn't go to the hospital... (that was not a good day couldn't even take any pain meds cause nothing would stay down.) I suppose they ramp it up in manga for dramatic effect and to push the story along?
Why do asian peeps in manga always go to hospital when they have a cold? My mum used to give me some cough drops and send me to school? Are asians more delicate then Australians? Are colds fatal in other countries? Anyone? Its been bugging me for a while...
