Good old days

Lighthearted-ness is over. While I miss the sweet simple story line, this kind of thing isn't unrealistic. The reactions might be exaggerated though, kids are more open minded these days... I think? Expecting a lot of character growth. Looking forward to it.

Well, not really. It sure is different for each country but even among the most open minded and less conservative’s on, like France, there is, and sadly will still be, discrimination and rejection. I think it is even worse in the countryside. It really tends to get better with time and education, but kids can be pretty cruel when they do not understand something or just repeats what their parents told them … #-.-)
    Sorry for my crappy English, I’m a little rusted ( T﹏T )

You have to consider countries that are conservative and still traditional for example China. These places can be and are quite homophobic and prejudiced.

Nope, especially kids. I think it's only when people start going to uni/college that they start having opinions of their own. Small towns especially, kids just reflect their parents and then their peers thoughts. Also, i've noticed a 'fake' sort of tolerance, where they'll accept you as a group but on a personal level or within friendships it's used against you.

That's right. Middle school kids just don't have any opinions yet. They just go with whatever their parents / religion / surroundings tell them. High school is interesting. It's brutal but can also be very fun. There were a bunch on gay and bi girls when I was in high school, being a lesbian was "in" haha. The few gay guys I remember though were just kind of common knowledge / not openly gay and had a wide support system of girls. Guys just didn't befriend them but that was it. This is in a medium sized city in the USA. It's true that other more remote places / countries aren't nearly as accepting

Sorry to say but here in Sweden, a really open-minded country with lots of reputation of being liberal to many things, have kiddos with such awful hate towards lgbt. At my sisters school they asked the teenagers what would they do if someone in their class were bi or gay and many of the teens (specially the guys) said that they would hit them to their senses because “men aren’t girls”. What’s even more sad is that my sisters guy friend is bi and got found out by a classmate. Sadly, they began to shout bad things at him and one even threw a fucking rock at him. The student that threw it was gladly suspended but you know, it’s traumatic to be bullied like that for your sexuality. This friend didn’t come for more than a month and got better by talking to his friends and teachers and is now coming to school with a more positive mindset. However, I just wanted to let you guys know so that you really don’t think this is some type of exaggeration but that it actually happens between teens in 2018... these kiddos were 14-16, it’s so sad.

That's pretty sad. Is this in a small town? I have a few cousins who are 11-13 and they're pretty discriminatory as well... because the church they attend regularly teaches them that. I do think we have made tremendous progress but religion sometimes encourages such ignorant and closed minded beliefs. It's frustrating
