It's an Asian Traditional Medicine belief that you're not supposed to drink cold water during your period as it might cause period pain (dysmenorrhea) or even for the period to stop (Something to do with your body elements). /// I said "Asian" not "Chinese" cause I've heard of the same thing from Indian, Nepali, Japanese, Korean, etc. fellows.

I can generalize it as eastern thing. Same advice we receive time to time in Turkey. and mom knows it from Iraq. It actually helps to keep your stomach warm. Also there are those chinese warm patches. I wonder if anyone saw. It's a plastic bag of something reddish and hard. You click on some resistor in it. It becomes hot and slimy/liquidy. It's good to put it on your stomach then. After use you put it in boiled water. It returns back to solid form. Been using for awhile.
So what's the whole thing about her not being allowed to have ice during "that time of the month"? Is it some sort of a Korean cultural thing where women aren't allowed to have cold stuff while on their period? I don't know what the characters are referring to and am curious. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
