Why don't the pups call Daato by (I think) his last name? Isn't he the one to give birth to them? Do they not consider him a parent and just see him as a sibling or friend? Just was bothering me.

The pups call him Kaa-sama, its an endearment. In japanese it translates to "Mom". The pups really loves their mother, they've never called him by his name though.

Aren’t they continuously calling him Kaa-san? They’re continuously calling him Mom instead of by his last name. It’d be weird if they called their mom by his last name instead of Mom.

Cool thanks I've been reading manga for a long time but I never saw that before (I don't speak or read any other langue then english). I just knew that -san was a used for close family and usually added after a name. And given I didn't remaber Daato last name it confused me. Thanks for teaching me! (=・ω・=)

Yeah Kaa-sama (like okasan, mother) and Tou-sama (like otousan - father) though the sama part seems a bit extreme like “honorable Mum, honorable dad” xD

slight correction, mother is okaasan (with double a's) like when the children call daato kaa-sama. long vowels are important in japanese. more examples: obasan is aunt but obaasan is grandmother. ojisan is uncle but ojiisan is grandfather

    just a fun fact!

Another small FYI, this was explained on page 1 of the first chapter. The translation note. We chose to keep the Japanese terms because they're using a half-formal, half-informal variation on "mom" and "dad". We couldn't find a good way to put that into English.

Besides I think the terms suit the story, its just so cute.

thanks everyone! Sorry if it seemed like I was being rude, I could have phrased it better. I just didn't know but I know now. Sorry if I made people upset with my question. I have grown with this new information(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜. I am now ready to fly far far away from this ignorant past self. I have leveled up and ready for new battles.(๑•ㅂ•)و✧
