Yeah I was lost with the pillows at first but I later figured out that a year ago (from the present timeline), they bought pillows when they live together. At that time, he still believed the misunderstanding between them, and he assumed that seme is guilty with his silence so that hurt him, he threw the stuff they shared together including the pillows so he doesn't want to buy that yes/no pillow because he don't want an exact scene to happen a year ago.
I assumed he stopped after getting a proper job when he became a teacher. He was not a helpless, teenage orphan he were (a few years earlier) anymore
