I LOVE that they did the normal abnormal thing. Especially since that word gets thrown around a lot in society. Many gay people dont feel "normal" because society highlights hetero relationships as being the norm. Especially in many places outside the usa its still not openly discussed or accepted so many people including my gay brother felt like they were not normal when they started having feelings for people of the same sex. I think the author is just showing some realism by choosing to show the struggles of the character not accepting himself and feeling "abnormal" by his sexuality. its the sad truth of what people go trough.

What’s with the normal and abnormal thing? Not everything in this world lives in black and white. Kiyou should learn about the “gray areas” too. He may be annoying but I understand where his beliefs are rooted from. This story has a good start and it looks promising with all the drama at the start.
They looked really cute though during their preschool days and young Tsurugi that is lost makes me sad.
