In my opinion, I don't think she did it for the money. I also wonder if she thought that Skyler's mother was "better" after all those years. But no one knows for sure except the author.
It was Skyler's mother that came to ask for her help, Yeonduk didn't go and intervene at the first opportunity. It's hard to say no when people ask you for help and you can see just in how bad a shape they are... Especially when there's the wellbeing of two kids (Skyler and his younger brother) to consider... Can anyone really live with that on their conscience?

I know Skyler's mom is sick and it's very obvious, but i really can't sympathise with her. Whats even more, i can't bring myself to like nor dislike Yeonduk's mom. She's basically known ever since skyler and yeonduk were kids, that the mom was a danger to her kid and herself...and yet she's letting everyone suffer because she needs her money. Despite that though, i can't bring myself to dislike her either, because she comes off as caring and kind..
