I completely agree, i liked how ambiguous ch 3 was, it made me actually WANT to read the raws (something i dont do) and find out if it was really rape or not. I feel like it was made ambiguous on purpose, why only show the uke resisting and feeling depressed in ch 4? They could've put some of that, at least the kick, into ch 3 and it would've been made explicitly clear it was rape. I think it was obviously left ambiguous in ch3 as a cliffhanger, to make you want to read ch 4 and find out if it was rape or if the uke was just surprised/confused, but liking it.

Actually it's really good that the culture here should be changed, so many people here believe in rape myths 'if someone is aroused it's not rape' 'if they fall in love later it's not rape' 'if they say no but don't fight back it's not rape'.
I know there are many kids on this site and they are just young and don't know better so it's good that they can actually read comments that explain why it's wrong.
Also our attitudes change based on what we watch/read so yes actually, this can affect us in real life and people are just ridiculously naive for believing it can't, everyone should get a basic psychology course.

What i base rape, in fiction, on is how the victim feels. That's the thing, for it to be rape there has to be a "victim", in other words, if the person in question is okay mentally after the sex then it wasn't rape. As far as what you read effecting your irl views, only if it resonated with you to begin with. Other than that, it's just a subliminal idea that has no real effect on how you think aside from adding some perspective. For example, if you're religious and you read a book describing the world as faithless, you're just going to reject the thought as you want to believe that there're others who believe what you do out there and the rejection of that text might reaffirm your own faith. It works this same way with everything else, if you are disgusted by rape and see it in a book you're reading it'll just reaffirm your disgust towards rape as those are your beliefs and they come to your mind immediately. The same works in reverse, for you to read something and to accept it into your belief system, you have to have been open to it in the 1st place. Now, you had given a list of ideas that the "young kids" on here believe. There are two things i'd like to say to this: 1. What statistic page for mangago are you basing that off of? I mean you saying that "there're a lot of kids here". How would a child/teenager even make their way here? It sounds like you're just labelling anyone who doesn't fall into the black and white of your beliefs as "kids". 2. The list of "ideas" you gave that these "kids" supposedly subscribe to, what is the context here? This is the kind of argument people occasionally throw at me, "stop trying to justify rape" or "you must be okay with rape", well these are always only thrown at me when the topic we're discussing is a sex scene in a manga and whether or not it's rape. If i don't immediately agree that it's rape and instead critically analyze the scene i get very basic arguments exactly like what you're doing to those people. Saying that i "think rape is okay" and things like that that never come out of my mouth. It's a pattern. Instead of saying they're all children and acting like your interpretation is the only one why don't you provide a real counter to theirs?

I'm sorry but "edgy" is neither philosophic nor thought provoking, it's a cheap and hollow trick that's used loosey-goosey, you need to seriously consider that if you're planning on being on the creative side of things (not that it's necessarily bad to create shallow works, it's just that you can't hope writing something "deep" with these kind of misconceptions).
And BL authors are definitely not trying to be thought provoking (in Japan fushojis don't complain about rape, that's why it's so overused), they are mainstream erotica artists first and foremost, when you read their notes you realize that most of them are very straightforward and often naive regarding their work... Trust me, when you look at it closely even Harada's flashy edginess is not that impressive.
This story here is in no way trying to mind fuck anyone here, it's obviously very shallow and light, and the rape was an easy excuse to bring in the smut. Challenging someone's feelings is NOT the same thing as slapping some clumsy edginess in their face.
Little specification, the debate in the comments is more on whether or not it was rape, not if rape is fine or not. And like another reply explained, the comments are for other users not for the artists. I'm not going to comment on the eventuality of a change of mentality in the industry because I'm neither a specialist of Japan nor a sociologist and it is a very complex subject and none of us gaijins has influence on this. I don't wan't to bring in freedom of speach but people are alowed to complain and criticize in a comment section as much as they want, rants are not supposed to be productive anyways, but we all need to lash out when something gets on our nerves. Even if there is a trigger warning, isn't it natural for readers who believe the rape was uneceseray / stupid (given the concept and mood of the story) to share their opinions? Being warned has nothing to do with how they feel about this plot point.
And well, complaining about people complaining is complaining as well (sorry about that).
TL;DR
If you don't want negativity I'd suggest you not look at the comment section. It's excruciating, believe me, I know, but I also ALWAYS regret checking it after I realize I've wasted so much time writing several long rants /replies that I either will never post or immediately regret posting. Woops. Here's a new one.
Good luck on your journey to become a comic artist!

I agree with most of what this^ guy says with the first paragraph being a gray area for me. I can and can't agree with the 1st paragraph because it is too much of a blanket statement, there are definitely plenty of "edgy" manga meant to be thought provoking. The "shock factor" is what makes you think that maybe it wasn't okay. There ARE plenty where the edge is just there for no reason, but i don't agree that "edge isn't (to be more specific i'd like to say 'can't be' instead of the more broad 'isn't') philosophical or thought provoking". I'd also like to say that, as far as the authors' portrayal of the topic being "naive", i'd say that is entirely a matter of opinion unless it is factually an incorrect portrayal like if symptoms were wrong, etc. Just because the person in the art isn't acting in the way you think they should be reacting doesn't mean the portrayal is "naive", that's a very closed minded way of thinking. For example, the majority of rape victims have issues talking about it and never tell anyone, but there ARE still some who go straight to the police or go and try to get revenge rather than being broken. If a piece of art portrays the reaction in the minority rather than majority typical reaction you can see how you might end up with some of the yaoi that come across "naive" to you. The ones that aren't just porn with plot, again, i've already said this but there ARE stories that simply aren't meant to be thought provoking.
There are so many people getting triggered over rape/dubcon in yaoi, in the comments, but you do realize that none of this is reaching the actual authors?
Except for changing the culture slowly here, which indirectly affects yaoi culture, I don't see any point in complaining about it. We all read the chapter, we know it was there,(there was a warning) and honestly if y'all are getting so triggered you should try appealing to the actual authors, or buying their book one way or another. Google translate is getting better and most authors are on twitter.
Honestly I think most, if not all of us, I hope so, know the different between rape and sex and fantasy and reality. The authors can do whatever they want in their manga, it's not black and white, a manga isn't pure or twisted. That's what philosophy and mind-bending questions are here for, folks. You honestly shouldn't be reading yaoi or playing shooting games if you can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality. If you have a question, look it up.
I love philosophy and thought- provoking situations and questions, and I think that's what the author was trying to do here. I've been studying comics(I want to make them) and there's a certain amount of manipulation of the readers feelings and reactions that goes into making one. I noticed that particular scene was edgy, that was on purpose, and not nearly as many people would be commenting about rape if it wasn't evident like that.(I think)
I just wanted to share my point of view, hope no one gets too triggered about this.
Hope you all have a happy day and look on the bright side. (●'◡'●)ノ
