I agree with your point of view. I recognize scanlation groups as noble people and I admire their voluntary effort for our sake. I believe they, and we as a community, should unite in educating readers and scanlators equally in these matters as they concern us both, no need to get beligerent or start calling readers parasites. I wasn't aware of this situation, I can look for other sites if someone would kindly communicate with me ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
People have said it numerous times already, but the comment section is getting way too toxic. I have to say that both the translator and reader sides are in the wrong though.
One thing I have noticed from seeing arguments about copyright is that many readers are treating Mangago as if it's their whole world. They depend on it to discover new comics and are unwilling to branch out and search on their own. "It's thanks to Mangago uploading this comic that I knew it existed!" I feel like this primary feeling is why a lot of readers are defending the fact that this manhua was uploaded on here. And also the fact that a lot of users might also be lazy. Yes, Mangago is convenient because it hosts a lot of comics. It requires more "work" to look up a group's website to read an individual comic on their own reader or to download it. I'm sure a lot of us has a point in time when we have a huge number of tabs open that are just comics.
As illegal readers who are basically just free-loading off of others' work, we should at least change our habits little by little to phase out of Mangago. Translators are making a risk, yes, by putting an author's work illegally on the Internet. I mean, who doesn't want to discuss about new comics and anime? I heard so many readers complaining about there being no updates for the day, etc. Translators are readers too, and they love discussing with others about developments and whatnot. I'm not saying that what all of us are doing are morally right. But some users make it sound like that translators are mostly the ones in the wrong.
As for the translators, I understand your plight. I have heard many stories from other groups. It can be scary to get a warning letter from a publisher. Some readers might not be able to understand what a group goes through. However, from the comments I've been seeing on your side, your attitude will not help your case. Even if you are angered by some readers, it does not give a good impression for the group as a whole if your comments are worded the way they are.
P.S. For those who want to discover newly translated comics, go to Baka-Updates Manga. You'll find a lot of comics that are not uploaded on Mangago (since it's mostly Yaoi-oriented...) You can also follow your favorite comics, and an icon will show next to its name when it shows up on the front page. The names are updated mostly in real time, and group sites are also listed if one is available.
