Omegaverse originated in western fanfiction. It was based on where wolves and adopted the alpha-beta-omega pack structure originally proposed (since been refuted upon further observational studies).
I am assuming knotting comes from wolves as well in which the male and female get locked together between 20-30 min depending on the breed.
