Is Daniel using condoms with his hooking up? Because it doesn't look like it and even oral sex can give you STDs/STVs. Not to mention herpes.
I can't say i give a shit about what Daniel wants, tbh. Sure, his love is understandable, no problem there, but he's been using Logan literally as long as he's had the crush. He's really just not a good person, he doesn't care about anyone BUT Ed. Think about it, if he was THAT okay with just laying that bombshell on LOGAN, then how much do you think he cares about others? He literally just told the guy he'd fooled into thinking he was friends with SINCE CHILDHOOD that he'd just been using him to stay close to his dad... No sugar coating, no fucks given. You could see he didn't care if Logan was going to cut ties with him, i'd even say he expected it. He just drops that on him, says "i'd have no reason to hang out with you otherwise" and then tells him "if you're done feeling sorry for yourself then leave". He just didn't care if he and Logan never spoke again, on THAT parting note, he just told Logan to leave... As far as him "sleeping around": He has no problems sleeping around with substitutes, which as you said is fine provided he didn't lead any of them on and they were all under the understanding that it's JUST sex.

Logan finds out that he's only been used for 15 years by his childhood friend and he's even started liking his said friend who is only using him... I already hear his heartbreaking at some point...
Ed, the cause of all this drama, is clueless of his real position in this plot. His relationship with his son and his son's friend will change awkwardly in the period of them figuring out their feelings. He just wants to be a good dad!
Daniel has been stuck in a one-sided love for 15 years. Yeah, he's a douche right now (using Logan as a stepping stone) and yeah, he may be sleeping around a lot (which doesn't really matter because he's a friggen' adult except he's using them as an Ed substitute). BUT I want him to be happy too... He's not happy right now...
Every character in this story is not an ideal character. They all have their faults and that's what makes them semi-realistic and likable... BUT THERE IS JUST SO MUCH DRAMA RIGHT NOW AND I JUST WANT THEM TO BE HAPPY AND LIVE SIMPLE LIVES BEING FLUFFY... but of course, yaoi always needs drama!!!
