Why would he go for a kiss first? No wonder the friend was shocked. Its yaoi and anything can happen but what he did was definitely harassment. Its perfectly normal to be shocked in that kind of situation whether its a guy or a girl, especially if its someone you think you have platonic relationship with. He's not a homophobe guys. He made him say it was a joke because he wanted to protect him from his parents. Its difficult for the kind of society they have in Japan to just come out at that moment.

If a girl friend would did that to me I'm sure that I wouldn't shout like "Help me". I could keep my composure and try to make things better without hurting her feelings

it true the kiss kind of come out out of nowhere and it true he was shocked and it can be consider has an harassment.
but tell me this, how many "platonic friends" tell each other they are beautiful from everyone else they know? yeas friends can say "this look good on you.", "this look pretty", "you are pretty", but beautiful from EVERYONE ELSE?! sorry I can't see it has a platonic comment. it was totally a flirty shit to do to someone that wasn't ready to go out from his shell. so yeas I don't see it has something that other trully and really "didn't" want in the end.

Oh i wrote another post because replies didnt work...but here it is:
He was assaulted. He was forcibly kissed and pushed down ffs.
He was SHOCKED. He shouted it in heat of the moment and later he hotly denied that he was attacted although in fact HE WAS.
He was some teen (about 14?15?), straight guy who had just started to have smt with some girl, of course he was terrified when his bestfriend sexualy harassed him before some random guys (it was maybe even his first kiss). Nobody would care if he was gay or wasnt, rumors happen.
And in the end he protected Sempai, he could have said that yup he was attacted, he was assaulted and he was disgusted. He didnt do it. He defended his friend. Also forced coming out in front of their parents wouldnt be rather smt comfortable.
Its rather obvious that Ichan was his dear friend and he cared about him very much. He still writes letters to him years later.

Also when two girls kiss people dont take it so seriously all even coo how cute is it.
And more women than guys are open-minded about hugging, kissing etc their female friends.

That's why I wrote that the friend have always considered their relationship as platonic. They've known each other for so long that maybe something like "you're beautiful than anyone else" became a normal thing to hear from Neko. Furthermore, he never really confessed despite being in love with him for so long. He's probably had many flirtatious attempts like the aforementioned statement. But his ever dense love interest, who probably never encountered a gay person or knew anything about homosexuals/homosexuality before, most likely, didn't think of it romantically because they were both guys and Neko never even confessed to boot. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

In my country, girls kissing isn't "normal" for most people though. ( ̄∇ ̄")

Elsewhere in the world though it isn't considered a big deal whether friends, partners etc kiss it's just a common greeting .

Yeah people just tend to assume things easily. For some it may seem like flirting but for him it could be just friendly gestures. And saying he is cruel for reacting that way... he was taken aback of the situation at that moment.. he was sorry and defended him.... he even saved him from being outed to his family... I feel sorry for the glasses guy.. really.. but I don't think his bestfriend have been cruel to him in any way..

In Asian countries like my country and Japan, we don't kiss people on the lips as a greeting lmao. This story happens to be situated in Japan so.....its expected that the society and its people are more conservative.

It depends on what you think of that friend as well or what kind of approach she did or if you were the kind of person who's fine with casual kisses or if its not against your personal values (there are people who only want to be kissed by someone they like or people who believe that one should only kiss their husband/wife/bf/gf/partner)

It doesn't mean the character was wrong to kiss as a greeting, but also it doesn't mean it was wrong for the other character to be a bit taken aback. It is a bit rude though to start screaming after someone tries to essentially just greet you, all the cultural differences in the world don't give a character (the one who started screaming help) a free pass for being insensitive and wanting to cause embarrassment.

People have different limits with regards to their personal space and apparently to the friend, suddenly forced into a kiss with his best friend is not okay. He was shocked and probably scared because his best friend was acting different that's why he called for help. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

Tbh i dont know anycountry when you kiss someone long, passionatly fully lips to lips kiss as a greeting. Yup in Russia f.e. they kiss lips to lips as a greeting and in some Balkan countries but its rather a peck.
Also the story takes place in Japan as you said.. so its not normal behavior between friends if i understood corectly.
Also everyone has different limitem/borders. And it seemed that Ichan Exceeded his friend's.

He kissed him on the lips, big bloody deal. Given this is an international forum, maybe there are some cultural differences as I think most people think nothing of friends kissing each other, whether it's meant as a celebration, a joke, a greeting whatever... not really something to be shocked about.

Yes, Iccha sees him as a love interest. I was referring to Iccha's friend. The friend, most likely, sees Iccha as a best friend only that's why he was shocked with the kiss.

That what you think most people think. You just haven't met the people who don't find it normal to kiss their friends on the lips. I kiss my friends, too, but just on the cheeks!
