Please enlighten me about lesbian seagulls of the coast of CA i am intrigued
There’s a small uninhabited island off the coast of California where 23% (or maybe it’s 27%) of the female seagull population is gay. It was in a book I read when I was little. It frustrated me bc it didn’t g8ve a hypothesis on why bc that’s a higher % then what’s normally found in nature. Is it about having more chicks survive bc two parents can provide and protect better and there’s an issue with losing a male mate or does it have nothing to do with that and the female seagulls are oriented that way. I subscribe to the theory that Homosexuality is an evolved trait that has an evolutionary benefit. There’s some evidence that gay men are more often born as a youngest child or to mothers who went through a great deal of stress and or illness during pregnancy. Families that have gay sons have been found to be on a average happier and more connected. The hypothesis being that gay men are more empathetic and nurturing and they help keep the family unit together and strong. That it’s not survival of the fittest but survival of the fittest family. Before modern times a gay man wouldn’t have his own children so he would be an additional caretaker for the family. His added empathy and nurturing would help the family raise happier and stronger children. There isn’t the same kind of information about gay women but the scienctists who think there’s an evolutionary benefit to homosexuality are working to understand how lesbians benefit humans similarly. Bc it’s rare we evolve a trait that has no use. I think studying homosexuality in animals can be if help towards that end as well. Plus it completely negates homophobes assertions that homosexuality is unnatural. Bc when you look at our history as a species and other animal species it’s as natural as breathing.

Actually, some recent genetic research suggests that sexual preference genes aren't "heterosexual" vs. "homosexual", but rather sets of genes for female preference and separate sets for male preference. So, a homosexual male's female relatives may have a higher than normal attraction to men, and hence potentially have more kids.
It's an interesting theory, although it is way too early in research for any real conclusions to be made.
I find gender and sexuality pretty interesting. Awhile back, years ago actually I saw a piece about a woman who was genetically male but born female. She only found out she had two Y chromosome length as a teen when she failed to start her period and her parents took her to th dr where they found she was lacking a females internal sex organs. She’s not an aberration either. Some small percentage of women are born looking and “feeling” female but have YY instead of XY. Apparently they tend to be tall, attractive and confident. The type of women often referred to as an amazon. When my mom fell in love with my step mom whose m 2 f trans I became even more interested in gender and identity. I read a book that takes are notions of two distinct sexs and throws it out the window. Apparently there are a lot of different pairing beyond X and Y. Like XXY and XYY and so on. I’d love to see more research. There’s old research that showed that the postmortem brains of male to female trans women had a part of the brain that’s smaller in women looked much more like a woman’s then a mans. I think with time and research the differences we see in and sexuality and gender will be fully explained and shown to be a completely natural phenomenon. Not that it’ll change the minds of deep homophobes and transphobic shitlords bc they don’t want to know. I think there’s enough info already to disprove their assertions. The fact they need proof in the first place and can’t take the extremely compelling stories of LGBTQ ppl at face value says a lot about who they are. And it’s not a picture of nice ppl.

Well male ducks are anyways. Duck rape is so prevalent that female ducks (of some species) have evolved to prevent being forced into sex and procreating with male ducks they don't fancy. It's become a genital arms race. The female ducks developed a spiral vaginal canal so the male ducks developed a spiral penis. So the females then developed a spiral vagina that went in the other direction. She made herself literally unscewable if she's not in the mood. It's a big deal for her if a male duck she doesn't fancy manages to impregnate her bc then the male ducklings she has will be more likely to have that certain something the female found unattractive. That means if he inheirits his dad's ugly traits then other females will also find her male children unattractive. That means her male offspring will have less chance of impregnating females when they grow up meaning less duck grandchildren and great grandchildren, totally screwing up mama ducks genetic legacy. So ducks aren't actually nice. At least male ducks.
