"“Intersex” is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male." <- it doesn't have to do with the ABILITY to reproduce. intersex is used to describe someone who has reproductive ORGANS or sexual anatomy that is different from the norm. actually there are people who don't want "hermaphrodite" to be used in the medical/scientific fields. some intersex people have reclaimed the word, like other people have claimed other slurs, but A LOT of them absolutely do not want to be called that, i know this from personal experience with a friend of mine. and personally, i would rather stick to what actual intersex people say offends them and what doesn't than doctors who are using medical terms. like a lot of women don't want the word "female" to be used to describe them anymore.
here's an article on the matter: https://www.thedailybeast.com/dont-call-them-hermaphrodites
just a notice to those in the topic section: "hermaphrodite" is a really outdated and actually very offensive term. the proper term for people with both male and female sex organs is "intersex"
