I've read the spin-off before this, so I'm heavily biased towards not hating Kan-chan although I guess I wouldn't hate him that much even if I read this first because of how he broke off their relationship.
Honestly though, this speaks a lot about the work culture in Japan. Stress can change people. Anger management issues are serious. Anger management issues are (mental) health issues. He should've gone to a psychiatrist before it became worse. He should've quit his job before it became worse. But no. He couldn't afford to do either.
I'm pretty sure it's not only in Japan, but in other countries as well. I really hope mental health is more valued around the world, and that all mental issues are acknowledged.
Also, (a bit of spoilers for thistle/azami - the prequel) I hope that work abuse will lessen, have deeper consequences, and be... I don't know, more easily reported?
